Rohit Sharma wins Golden Bat in CWC 2019

Indian cricket team opener Rohit Sharma has secured the Golden Bat award as he finished the tournament as the top scorer.

Rohit Sharma has won the 'Golden Bat' award of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after the chasing pack of three English batsmen -- Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy -- and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson failed to overtake Indian vice-captain's grand total of 648.

David Warner finished just one run short of the Indian vice-captain with 647 runs. Shakib Al Hasan is third with 606 runs while Kane Williamson and Joe Root complete the top 5 with 578 and 556 runs respectively. Jonny Bairstow occupies the sixth spot with 528 runs.

Before Rohit, Sachin Tendulkar (1996 & 2003) and Rahul Dravid (1999) have won the Golden Bat. The Indian batsman broke the record of most centuries in an edition of a World Cup as well by smashing as many as five hundreds in the tournament.

He is contention to be named man of the tournament as well!

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rohit Sharma scored 648 runs in the World Cup 2019
  • Sachin Tendulkar holds the all-time record with 673 runs scored during the 2003 edition
  • David Warner fell short of Sharma's tally by just one run

This is the third time an Indian batsman has ended up as the highest run-scorer in World Cup after Tendulkar, who managed to top the run charts in 1996 and 2003.

Rohit's tally of 648 is the third highest by a batsman in a single edition after Tendulkar (673) and former Australia opener Matthew Hayden, who had amassed 659 runs in the 2007 World Cup which they ultimately went on to win in the West Indies.

Australia opener David Warner ended up one run short of Rohit's tally with 647 in 10 matches at 71.88 with three hundreds and three fifties. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was third on the list with 606 runs in 8 games at 86.57 with two centuries and five fifties.

Record for most runs scored in a single World Cup campaign still belongs to India’s Sachin Tendulkar, who had scored 673 runs in 2003, followed by Australia’s Matthew Hayden, who had scored 659 runs in 2007.

Aussie pacer won the 'Golden Ball' for most wickets with 27 wickets, followed by England's Jofra Archer (20), Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman (20), New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson (19), India's Jasprit Bumrah (18), England's Mark Wood (18), New Zealand's Trent Boult (17), Pakistan duo Mohammad Amir (17) and Shaheen Afridi (16), and England's Chris Woakes (16).
